For Your First Month, This Is All You Need to Know

Feeling a little nervous when using a new knife is completely natural.
Am I using it correctly?
Does it need special care?
What if I make a mistake?

You don’t need to be perfect from the start.
What matters most is taking your time and getting comfortable.

SUIFU knives are made to be professional, yet easy to live with.
They are designed to be forgiving, so you can focus on cooking, not worrying. To enjoy your knife for a long time, there are just three simple things to keep in mind.

1 | You don’t need to sharpen it every time

There is no maintenance you must do after every use.
Sharpening is only needed when you notice a change in how the knife feels.

Think of it this way:

  • If the sharpness feels slightly off, take about five minutes to refresh it
  • Not “daily maintenance,” but an occasional reset

Here are a few signs it may be time:

  • Tomato skins catch instead of slicing cleanly
  • Onion skins are hard to cut
  • Shredded cabbage feels crushed rather than cut

If none of these bother you, there’s nothing you need to do.

2 | Wash, dry, and put it away

When you’re done cooking, remember just this:
Wash → Dry → Put away

SUIFU knives are made from stainless steel and resist rust well.
Still, drying them soon after use helps keep them beautiful for longer.

One thing to avoid is leaving the knife in the sink.
This not only shortens its life, but also prevents accidental injuries.

If you ever feel unsure, remember:
Wash it, dry it, put it away. That’s enough.

3 | Leave very hard or frozen foods to other tools

Frozen foods or extremely hard ingredients can damage the edge.
They may cause small chips or flattening of the blade.

We recommend using a different tool for:

  • Frozen or partially frozen foods
  • Bones or shellfish shells
  • Very hard seeds or cores
  • Hard vegetables like squash
  • Cutting on metal or glass surfaces

Always fully thaw frozen foods before cutting.

“Is this okay?”
“Did I do something wrong?”

The goal of this knife is not perfection.
It is to become familiar with it—and to grow fond of it.

As you continue to use it, sharpening and cutting will naturally feel easier.
Take it easy. Let the knife become part of your everyday cooking, little by little.
